Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips which include commentary on gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. Furthermore she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality since a early age. In 2009, when she was in university, she created the Feminist Frequency site. It was a girl determined to make an online series that would examine gender roles in video games. In the end, she ended up being the target of cyber-bullying. She was not deterred by the assault, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. Numerous awards have been given to her for all the contributions that she made.
